Membership
CHCPS is a fully parent-run cooperative play group. Parents facilitate groups on a rotating schedule.
To participate, a child must be age 2 by December 31 of the year in which they are applying.
Families must live within the following boundaries: South Capitol and North Capitol Streets, Florida Avenue and Benning Road, the Anacostia River, and the Southeast Freeway.
Covid-19
Masks are required in public areas of the space.
CHCPS requires that all enrolled children are fully-vaccinated and that parents submit a completed DC Health Certificate signed by your pediatrician.
Any child who has had a fever or vomiting within 24 hours may not attend playschool.
Parents should also not send a child to playschool with any symptoms of illness, such as sneezing, coughing, sore throat, or other signs of contagious disease.
Additional protocols shall be established at the time play groups begin. They will adhere to CDC guidelines and DC Health regulations.
Typical Day
9 a.m. – Duty parent arrival.
9:15 – 9:30 a.m. – Drop-off of children.
9:30 – 10 a.m. – Free play
10 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. – Wash hands and snack.
10:15 – 10:30 a.m. – Circle time with songs, movement, and stories.
10:30 – 11:45 a.m. – Activity time: anything from arts and crafts to a ride in the buggies to the playground at Stanton Park.
11:50 – 12:10 p.m. Wash hands back at school and eat lunch, then free play as time permits.
12:15 – 12:30 p.m. – Pick-up of children and clean-up of classroom by duty parents.
